Target and the Denver Police Department recently collaborated with Project Access Resource Centers as “Heroes and Helpers,” aiming to “Spread the Joy” this holiday season. During this heartwarming event, ten fortunate families were each presented with $250 to enjoy a shopping experience at Target alongside Denver Police officers.

The event, which took place on Saturday, December 9, 2023, saw ten families, encompassing 17 children aged between 3 and 13 years, paired with Denver Police officers for a holiday shopping spree. All the fun took place at the southeast Denver Target store at 7777 E. Hampden Avenue.

These young participants, hailing from the housing communities of Bridges at 9 Mile Station and Revive at 9 Mile Station, were the lucky winners of a contest held during a “Cookies with Cops” event hosted by the Denver Police Department. The selected winners were treated to a VIP shuttle service from their communities to the Target store, where they and their families were given a $250 shopping opportunity, courtesy of Target, to purchase gifts and essentials for the holiday season.

The “Heroes and Helpers” event was not just about shopping; it also featured seasonal snacks, beverages, and special activities for all the raffle winners and their families, along with photo sessions with the teams from Target and the Denver Police Department. A highlight for the children was cookie decorating and meeting Shelby, Denver Police Department’s “therapup,” who joined in the shopping fun.

Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas expressed gratitude towards Target and Project Access for their partnership, emphasizing the unforgettable holiday experience provided to the children. He highlighted that this event showcased the true spirit of the season and the joy of coming together for such a special occasion.

This collaboration between Target, the Denver Police Department, and Project Access marked yet another element of the Project Access “Spread the Joy” campaign. This seasonal initiative by Project Access collaborates with community partners, local businesses, and supporters to bring holiday cheer to thousands of residents nationwide. These collaborations are crucial in providing access to essential programs that support education, health, and financial stability, thereby strengthening communities.

Hailey Tuohy, Regional Manager of Resident Services for Project Access, lauded the event as a significant community effort. She expressed profound gratitude to the Denver Police Department and Target for their generosity and collaboration, noting that their actions perfectly captured the essence of the ‘Season of Giving.’

There’s still time to make a meaningful difference! Make a gift to deserving families in our community.
