Golden State Foods’ corporate nonprofit, the GSF Foundation (GSFF), which provides financial and volunteer assistance to hundreds of nonprofit organizations that bring hope and healing to children and families in need, becomes the latest foundation to collaborate with Project Access and it’s Adopt a Resource Center program. This innovative initiative brings skill-building, financial education, and other resources to residents of affordable rental communities in Southern California and beyond.

With its grant award to Project Access of $5,000, the GSF Foundation has “adopted” The Palms Apartment Homes in Rowland Heights, California. This grant will assist Project Access in helping residents create a safer, more cohesive community. “The collaboration with GSF Foundation at The Palms is a great example of how non-profits can come together and support each other to benefit their respective communities,” said Project Access CEO and President Kristin Byrnes.

Adopting a Project Access Resource Center by organizations such as the GSF Foundation helps support Project Access programs that provide health and wellness resources, after-school enrichment activities; plus, and social and recreational activities for seniors. Project Access operates Family and Senior Resource Centers in more than 85 low-income and workforce housing communities nationwide. Its programs, delivered right in residents’ backyards, provide tools and opportunities to under-resourced individuals to stabilize and empower themselves and their households. This approach to service delivery embeds Project Access into the fabric of the community, allowing the non-profit to build trust with its residents while also eliminating significant service barriers like transportation, childcare, and cost. In 2021, Project Access reached more than 22,500 residents in 16 states.

The GSF Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need in the areas where GSF associates live and work.  Established in 2002, the Foundation is a natural extension of Golden State Foods’ values-based business. Funded and run by GSF associate volunteers and supported by its business partners, community partners, and customers, the Foundation operates under the direction of an executive board, which includes national representation from local GSF volunteers. Uniting their hearts and hands for good, as much as 80% of GSF associates actively support the Foundation through personal involvement and contributions in 28 local committees across the United States.

“Through the GSF Foundation, we have come together as a team of associates and decided to adopt a Project Access Resource Center here in Rowland Heights with this grant, which has been funded with generous contributions from our paychecks,” said Angela Romero, GSFF Chair for Quality Custom Distribution (QCD) Los Angeles. “We believe that children and families in our local community will greatly benefit from the valuable resources that Project Access offers to residents within the affordable housing areas where they live. We hope that our GSF Foundation support makes a positive difference for our neighbors in the community and brings more stability within their households.”
