Words from our CEO & President

This past September, I had an amazing moment visiting our Warwick Family Resource Center. I was talking with Resident Service Coordinator Veronica Arias-Aguayo, when we were Kathy McCarrellinterrupted by a young resident. He could not hold back his excitement as he described how he just completed his first day at Cal State University, Fullerton. He was thrilled to share the news with Veronica and Warwick staff member, Tina Pena because they were so very instrumental in his success. They spent several years preparing him academically, walking him through the application paperwork, and nurturing his dreams. This is life changing work! This is how to break the powerful cycle of poverty.

I am excited to report that the David and Margaret Clare Foundation has joined us in this mission by awarding Project Access with a grant to expand our programming to include a highly-intensive College Preparation Program called Juntos.  Juntos targets low-income, high-potential teens living in our Orange County properties. This program engages the entire family in planning for college, and sets higher education as a family goal. Youth and their parents will attend workshops outlining the college admission and financial aid processes. Families will be provided college tours and scholarships for SAT preparation classes for those who need it. We are thrilled that the Clare Foundation has chosen to support our vision.

2017 was an amazing year. We were able to touch the lives of over 15,000 men, women, children and seniors. We now have 90 high-quality, compassionate staff members working hard every day to support our residents in 7 different states. I couldn’t be more proud of them and grateful for their commitment to the belief that children should be able to determine their own future, no matter where they’re born. Please join us in making 2018 an even better year!

With a grateful heart,

Kathy McCarrell, MSW
